Steady meals for pets

Dog waiting beside a food bowl

Most feeding problems come down to inconsistency rather than the food itself. A steady routine does more for digestion than switching brands.

Keep the base consistent

Stick with a solid protein base and give it time. Constantly rotating foods makes it hard to tell what is actually working.

Measure, don't eyeball

Use the same scoop every time. Portions drift upward when you guess, and a small daily overshoot adds up over a year.

Change food slowly

When you do switch, blend the new food into the old over seven to ten days, increasing the new share gradually. A sudden change is the most common cause of an upset stomach.

Fresh water matters more than people expect

Change the water daily and wash the bowl. Many pets drink noticeably more from a clean bowl, and hydration affects everything from coat to digestion.

Slow it down

If your dog inhales meals, a puzzle feeder or slow feeder turns breakfast into a few minutes of work. It paces the meal and gives them something to think about.
